Rutherford County convenience centers and dump hours

Middle Tennessee, on Central time

Convenience centers are what most people call the dump. This page covers 14 convenience centers, the Rutherford County Landfill, and the Rutherford County Transfer Station. Each one’s hours are posted below, with the rules that apply.

What to do with tires, mattresses, paint, and more

Before you go

  • The Haley Road center has been closed for remodeling since June 24, 2024. Don’t go there; the county will post when it reopens.

Convenience centers

  • The centers are for Rutherford County households only, so be ready to show proof of residency. No commercial waste, no scavenging, and no dumping when they’re closed.
  • One visit a day, with no more than one level pickup truck load of household trash and at most 3 bulk items, such as a couch, chair, or lamp. Trailers can be no longer than 10 feet, and with a truck and trailer the center takes the load on one or the other, not both. No box trucks.
  • Recycling goes in together, unsorted: paper, plastic #1 and #2, aluminum and tin cans, and glass in large glass containers. Every center takes bulk metal.
  • The centers don’t take yard waste or brush, construction or demolition debris, paint, TVs, computers, fluorescent bulbs or ballasts, propane or gas tanks, or flammable fuels or oils.Rutherford County’s recycling page says the centers don’t take paint, TVs, computers, or fluorescent bulbs. Its solid waste page says the Leanna Center has taken electronics, oil-based paint, and fluorescent bulbs since June 2024, and the county’s center map lists electronics at Leanna, Rockvale, and Smyrna.
  • The open-top containers stand about 6 feet tall. If you’ll need help getting something over the side, bring that help with you.
