How we check these facts

Every hour, fee, and limit on this site comes from an official page: the county’s solid waste department, a city or authority that runs a facility county residents use, or the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. Each page links to the sources behind it.

We don’t fill gaps from memory or from other websites. If a county doesn’t post something, the page says “Not posted. Call ahead.” When two official pages disagree, we say so on the page and tell you who to call.

The two dates on every page

• Verified is the day a person last checked the facts against the sources. “Not yet verified” means nobody has done that yet, so call ahead.
• Source checked is the day we last read the county’s page to see whether anything changed.

Open or closed right now

Open-now status is worked out in the facility’s own time zone, so it’s right even if your phone is set to somewhere else. Holiday closures count only when the operator posts them. Centers can still close early for weather or full containers, so call if you’re cutting it close.

Use my location

The home page’s “Use my location” button works out your county on your own phone, using county lines from the US Census Bureau. Your location isn’t sent to us or anyone else.
