Hazardous waste collection days

The state holds one-day household hazardous waste collections around Tennessee each spring and fall. Any Tennessee resident can use any of them.

October 2026

What they take, and what they don’t

Takes

They take household chemicals, including gasoline, antifreeze, fuel additives, carburetor cleaner, starter fluid, used strippers and thinners, adhesives, driveway sealant, roofing tar, pesticides, fertilizers, wood preservatives, pool chemicals, medicines, aerosols, mercury thermostats and thermometers, fluorescent bulbs, and needles in a puncture-proof container.

Not accepted

They don’t take paint, electronics, or alkaline batteries. Ask your county about paint and electronics. Alkaline batteries can go in the regular trash.

They also don’t take ammunition, fireworks, explosives, medical waste, radioactive material, smoke detectors, empty containers, or car gas tanks.

Who can come

Households only. No business, school, or farm waste.

Any Tennessee resident can use any county’s collection.

Before you go

Keep things in their original containers, don’t mix them, and box anything that’s leaking or breakable.

When you arrive, you’ll be asked which county you live in and how many households the waste is from.
