What it takes
It’s the only place in Carter County that takes tires, some paint, and brush. The Carter County Recycling Center takes appliances and some electronics. The Carter County Recycling Center and the Little Milligan Convenience Center take used motor oil.
Each item has its own rules. Check before you go.
Carter County rules
- Household trash costs $1.50 a bag for bags up to 40 gallons and $2.50 a bag for bigger ones, at the landfill and at both convenience centers.
- At the landfill, all trash must be bagged, paint must be opened and dried out, and medical waste and fluorescent bulbs aren’t accepted. It takes cash or checks only, not credit or debit cards. Commercial accounts are charged by weight.
- The landfill isn’t taking demolition debris or cut tires right now, while its demolition site is closed, and it isn’t renting roll-off containers.
